Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if Attached Psychology is the right help?

We appreciate how hard it can be to find the right support, to know who to trust, and to take that leap of faith for yourself, your child, your family. Hopefully this website has helped you have a sense of our ethos and what we offer. Please get in touch with any questions you might have. We can arrange a free 15-minute initial telephone call if that is helpful. And if you do go ahead with an initial assessment, there is no obligation to engage in therapeutic support. We know how important the therapeutic relationship is, so it has to feel right for everyone.

How long are sessions?

Typically 50 minutes to one hour.

What days do you operate?

Our core working days are Wednesday to Friday 0900 - 17:00.

Professional training or consultation can be arranged individually and may fall outside of these core hours if required.

How many sessions will I / We need?

This is such a common question and it is so hard to answer! It varies for everyone but please be assured we build review sessions into our work so that we are regularly thinking about how it is going, and make plans for an ending when it feels right to do so.

Where do sessions take place?

Our therapy space is based at Seale Hayne, in Newton Abbot.

It is also possible to be seen in the center of Exeter but there would be a small room rental fee for this.

We offer online sessions too and can discuss this with you if that is something you are interested in. It is very common to do some parent-focused work online but our preference is to see children and young people in person, as it is a much richer experience and possible to do more therapeutically in a room together.

Do you have a waiting list?

No, we do not currently operate a waiting list. We know how important it is to get help when you and your family are ready and need it, so we do our best to offer timely appointments.

Do you see me and my child, just them, or just me?

At Attached Psychology we believe it is really important to have parents/carers in the room, as impacting the parent-child relationship and a family’s shared understanding of the difficulties can bring about significant, long-lasting change. However, we understand and respect young people’s privacy and need for a confidential space, so yes, we certainly see young people on their own. In these circumstances we would be clear about the bounds of confidentiality and hope to be able to liaise with parent(s) / carer(s) to include them in the process.

In addition, therapeutic work can also begin with parents before children or young people join sessions, as often change can come about indirectly through parent-focused work.

What if I need to cancel?

Whilst we ask that you commit to the regular appointment time that we agree together, as consistency really supports the therapeutic process, we understand that life happens and you may need to cancel an appointment. We ask that you give us as much notice as possible. With less than 24 hours notice we will charge the full session cost (as per our terms and conditions).

Do you offer top-up sessions?

Yes, of course. It is really common for people to take a break from therapy, consolidate, and then return for a top-up session, or several sessions if circumstances change and it is helpful to receive a bit more support. These are charged at our standard session rate of £120.

Do you offer neurodiversity assessments?

No, we do not currently offer neurodiversity assessments.

We do however work with people with neurodivergent diagnoses, or those who are wondering if this is a way of making sense of their difficulties and are seeking therapeutic support that can be adaptable to their needs.

Can I use my health insurance?

Dr Jessica Cardy is registered with Bupa, so if you have Bupa healthcare insurance then this is something we can definitely discuss to support you with the financial implications of accessing support.
